Myocarditis attacks otherwise healthy Canadians — children, athletes, and young adults — often without warning. We're building Canada's first national foundation dedicated entirely to awareness, research, and patient support.
Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle that can affect anyone — most often striking otherwise healthy children, young adults, and athletes. It is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in people under 35 and a significant cause of heart failure and heart transplantation.
Despite its serious impact, myocarditis remains widely underdiagnosed in Canada. Symptoms — chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat — are often misattributed to other causes. Many cases are only identified at autopsy.
